You wouldn’t think that in the year 2008 that misogyny (hatred of women) still exists in Western society. But it does. I am constantly amazed at the number of men and women who will tell me that they aren’t sexists and yet don’t believe that a woman should be or could be pastor. Or president? We’ve gotten to the place in our society where it is social taboo to be racist, but what about sexist? The current political drama that is played out in the media everyday is a perfect example; Obama is backed by the media, Clinton is clearly not. So my question is who really decides the outcome of the elections? Answer: The media. There are statements that are being made about Senator Clinton that cannot be construed as anything but misogyny. Where does all this hate come from? I think anytime there is a person (male or female) who dares to break the glass ceiling and come out of a traditional mold will come up against hatred. There are always those who try to hold you back; try to make you think that you aren’t qualified for the position; you should quit; you don’t have a chance. We need to wake up and not be manipulated by what the media says. This type of harassment is wrong and we should be angered by it, just as I would be angered if Obama were harassed because he is black. Think about your own life; do you automatically dismiss women in your daily life? Do you have thoughts that women need to stick in their proper role? Do you believe that a woman would not be a good president simply because she is female? Church do you believe that a woman cannot pastor a church simply because she is a woman? These are types of questions that indicate whether or not you have a deep seeded hatred of women. Women are not inferior because they are female. Women are not superior because they are female. They are human beings just like men. Jesus broke tradition and the glass ceiling by healing on the Sabbath. He stood against the Pharisees and Sadducees and their traditional chains of legalism. Shouldn’t we do the same?
